SECURITY ADVISORY: CARNAPPING-PRONE AREAS

4 Oct 05

For everyone’s information and guidance.

Incidents of carnapping or taking of cars at gunpoint have been taking place in and around the following areas of Quezon City:

1. Quezon Avenue – EDSA underpass
2. Dark streets in the areas around Morato and around West Triangle
3. Some areas in Teacher’s Village
4. Commonwealth – Tandang Sora overpass
5. Stretch of EDSA
6. Fly over from Libis going to Katipunan, also the underpass tunnel connected to the flyover (carnappers prime maneuver is to sandwich the victim’s car between two cars, one in front and the other behind).

Similar incidents have also taken place in other parts of Metro Manila but Quezon City is the epicenter of the activities. Carnappers usually victimize between 11:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., although some operations are known to have taken place earlier.

It i s suggested by police authorities that when traveling during these hours, one must take the route where there are many vehicles, people and police outposts.

Unrelated, but I linked you. :)

As a tip (only when driving at night), try not to drive too close to the side of the road; that way, your car can’t be boxed in.

There’s also this modus operandi on jeepneys… they do it to girls. Two guys will ride the jeep, and one will spit out the side of the jeep. The other one will act like a good samaritan and tell the girl that there’s some spit in her hair, he’ll even help her wipe it off. As he does this, the other one will slash the girl’s bag and take all her important stuff (cellphone, wallet, etc.) This is especially rampant daw sa Crossing, sa may Edsa Central/Uniwide area. Let’s all be careful!

Just heard of a carnapping incident in EDSA corner Ortigas that happened at 11am. On a bright and sunny day.

Dad says it goes to show that people are really hungry now, times are that bad.

    Grabe ‘noh?

doctors and nurses are leaving, teachers are leaving…

I think this is one of the reasons why I don’t want to have children.

Every generation has its own issues. When we were younger I always asked what our war was–our parents had the Jap war and martial law, what was (is) ours? Maybe our war is not physically violent, but one that is damaging in less blatant but still gigantic economic and mental doses. Brain drain, skill drain, all out drain. Boo.

It’s sad… I’m in this HR group and so many people are asking for advice because they can’t find jobs… they are told that either they are under- or overqualified. Wawa.

some people have it easy, some don’t. as filipinos, maybe we’re predisposed to not have it easy.

if we’re going to take the catholic slant on this, we shouldn’t be completely dismayed by it. suffering is not entirely to be avoided. it builds character, as they say. :P

it may be a low blow analogy, but if the hurricane of new orleans struck the philippines, anarchy would not (probably) have been the most immdeiate consequence of it. how many times have we seen smiling faces in videos and photos of disaster-stricken places here?

As a people, we’re used to tragedy.

Hence the Americans weren’t able to deal with H. Katrina, where for Filipinos it would have just been another day in paradise for us.

A friend who works in Paris told me that her street had a bomb scare once. Everyone in her office stopped dead and started to panic, while she just kept typing away.

It would take a mighty lot to rattle a Filipino.
